Good morning friends
The passage for today is Luke 24:13-36.
Song : Crystal Lewis For Such A Time As This

The passage is about two disciples who on the third day after Jesus’ death had had enough. If the crucifixion wasn’t enough, to add to injury to that the body of Jesus had disappeared from the tomb. This was verified by two different sets of disciples. Notice that this was the third day. To say the least they were devastated. Therefore, they did what most of us would do in dire circumstances: pack up after three years of following and start the long journey back home from the big city of Jerusalem to the village of Emmaus. After being exposed for these years to travelling and watching Jesus speak, heal and bring new life, can you imagine their distress of having to go back home? Imagine the two of them having to go back home to a very different life, a life without Jesus? Crisis! So they started this journey of seven miles of trying to figure out what they were going to do with themselves now that everything that they knew had changed for the worse and had no hope of returning to normal. Crisis Tipping Point you think! O brethren doesn’t that sound familiar. We are in dire circumstances that only appear worse by the minute and we are forced to return/stay home. But God!

As they walked along talking and discussing about everything that happened, Jesus himself suddenly comes and walks with them without them recognising who he was. Typical Jesus goes to the point of their pain by asking them what are they discussing so intently as they walk along. It is like Jesus is saying to them “Clearly this means so much to you for you to be discussing it so passionately”. The passage tells us that Jesus entering into their space causes them to stop short with sadness written all over their faces before expressing their disappointment and loss of hope in the Messiah. Today, Jesus wants us to stop short, be honest about our crisis and express our feelings of disappointment and hopelessness in Him. Because when we tell Jesus how we feel, He will walk alongside us and carry us on a journey of understanding of who He is and His purpose through His Word. It was clear that these particular disciples needed to get this personal lesson from Jesus, the living Word which would burn their hearts in order to strengthen their spirits and bodies for the return trip. We too need to get one and one with Jesus so that He can burn our hearts and strengthen our bodies and spirits for the journey ahead. Notice too that these disciples asked Jesus to stay with them and when he blessed, broke and gave the bread to them their eyes were opened. When we invite Jesus into our circumstances, his blessings will transform our crisis and provide what we need and open our eyes.

Opened eyes to Jesus causes them to within the hour to do a complete return trip to Jerusalem – back to the mission field to share with the others what they had just experienced. They were important for the mission field. Today, like these two disciples God wants our eyes to be opened so that we can recognize, return to the mission field and tell others about our experience with Him. When we like the disciples tell our personal story of meeting with Jesus, Jesus will come in our midst with His peace to dispel fear and doubt and fill our souls with confirmation.
So let us not let the events of today fill our hearts with fear and dread that we doubt who God is and what He can do. Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever. Let us invite him to come into our lives to equip us for His work that needs to go on.

Jesus we are filled with fear, doubt, disappointment and hopelessness. The dire/crisis events are turning our hearts to jelly. Please come into our space and burn our hearts with your Living Word and strengthen our bodies and spirits so that we can take the complete journey to others sharing the good news of your transforming experience. We lay ourselves at your feet for your full revival. In Jesus name. Amen
