John 14:23 (NIV)
Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.
What are the thoughts that come to mind when you hear the word “home”? Home, not house as the popular song reminds us that “a house is not a home”. For most persons home is a place of good memories, happiness, laughter, tears, siblings, love reigning supreme. For others, home was a place of pain, abandonment, or worse there was no home at all, only homelessness. The concept of home and what it means is so powerful that it is written about, sung about, prayed about and so on. Take for instance, lines from popular songs such as “take me home country roads to the place where I belong”, or a bar becoming a home “where everyone knows your name”. Where memories of home are pleasant these speak to home being a place where you can be yourself at the core of your being without hiding behind a mask of pretense, where you are loved: flaws, bumps, burps and all.
In John 14:23 Jesus is inviting us to experience a spiritual, loving home that is not confined by time, space, location. This home has some of the major foundations required for successful home building: love, obedience, teaching, fellowship, sharing, intimacy. The fascinating thing is that this invitation is open to anyone, anytime, any place and does not required travel. Jesus makes it clear that on the condition of obedience to his teaching, both Himself and the Father will not just come to us for a visit but will take up residence. Can you imagine, the one who created the universe and you and me living with us, sharing, talking, laughing, strategising, planning, working, playing, co-creating and list could go on with us!!!! Wow!! Wow!! Talk about a home transformation where each room, each relationship gets a complete makeover.
So what are you waiting on, let’s begin right now by inviting Jesus into our hearts, minds, souls and spirit: repenting of our sins, believing that Jesus is Lord over everything and asking him to transform our lives and come live with and in us. We won’t regret it as our lives will find themselves home sweet home with the ones who created us for our divine purpose.
Thank you Father & Jesus for your invitation of making a home for us and coming to live with us. I can’t wait for my complete makeover in all my relationships and in all the rooms in my house. We don’t want to build in vain so Spirit of truth lead us in the right direction. Amen.
