Proverbs 15:24 – “The path of life leads upward for the wise to keep them from going down to the grave”.

Recently I went to two different parts of the island.  What amazed me was that there was so much interior to this island that is just waiting to be explored. However, we had to come off the main road, leave the popular route, take the narrow road to find these communities, which were surrounded by hills and mountains.  It was fascinating to watch how people flourished and survived and made their living from situations that appeared impossible.  As we continued our ascent, every time we thought we could not get higher there were higher heights to reach.

So it with the path of life.  The path of life has amazing and fascinating things for us to explore and higher heights to reach.  However, it is not on the popular route as Matthew 7:13-14 records: “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.  But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life and only a few find it”.  The road that leads to life must be sought out for its entrance is so small and narrow it can be easily missed.  We therefore need to make sure that we are like the wise, noticing the signposts that are posted for our direction, safety and protection.  Signposts such as One Way Jesus; Stop! Make a U turn to Christ, Narrow Road Up Ahead, Turn Now, Repent, Seek the Lord While He may be found.  

We live in a world where people are often concerned with following the crowd, the popular route but Proverbs 16: 25 reminds us that “There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death”.  Notice that the man does not realize that he is on the path to death, in his mind he is experiencing life. This is mindlessness, going along without paying attention. This is a wakeup call to us.   As fallen creatures operating outside of Christ our own ways will lead to death.  Let us therefore take stock of ourselves and come to our senses.  Where are we now?  Are we on the path of life or walking down destruction broad road?  Are we going upward to life or merrily along to the realm of the death like the lost son in Luke 15:13-17?   The Lord is today inviting us to come to Him today, commit our ways to Him so that the Lord himself will determine our steps. We therefore need to seek the ways of the Lord of creation that gives abundant life because only His plans will succeed and bring forth life. 

PRAYER

God You are my Father.  Who is like You?  There is nobody greater than You Lord.  I ask you to take me right now from the broad road of destruction and set me on Your narrow path that leads to life.  Order my steps in Your Word.  In Jesus’ name Amen.
