Genesis 1:1a & 3a “In the beginning God created…and God said ‘Let there be light’…”
John 8:12 “When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
Prior to the beginning of the New Year, we often see lots of lights… fireworks, Christmas lights and so many more lights. Every year the competition of the best lights display is in earnest, particular on the commercial scene. The contrast can be seen between the well-lit areas and the areas where there are one or two lights or even no lights at all.
Cast your mind to the place long ago where three wise men followed not artificial lights but the Brightest Star ever that compelled them to follow it over hills and valleys. They followed it to the place where the true Light of the world, Jesus Christ first shone into the hearts and souls of Mary, Joseph and the shepherds. This Light transformed them and moved them to Christ worship as He changed the lives of all He encountered and they and their world were never the same again.
Too often we focus on the artificial lights and not the God given Son of Light: Jesus Christ the light of the world. In a time where there is so much darkness, pain and despair, this Jesus is seeking us out as He wants to come into our lives and shine His light into every dark corner and expose it to His search light. Only when we are under Jesus’ search light can we be transformed to change and our world as well.
What are the areas of our lives that the Lord wants to shine His light on so that we can be transformed as individuals and as a world? Let us surrender ourselves to the Lord for He wants to move us from darkness into His marvelous light.
PRAYER
Father, come and shine your light in me and remove whatever stronghold of darkness I am holding on to. I am afraid to expose myself to your light but if I don’t I will never grow and be transformed into your likeness. I come in Jesus name. Amen.
