Acts 20:35 “In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”

Look around your world today, is there someone weak and vulnerable that you are called to help?

Helping those that are weak and vulnerable on the edge of society is hard work. Oftentimes we reject the weak not because we do not want to help them but because of the amount of effort that we would have to put in, the inconvenience that it would bring and how it would negatively affect our comfort zone. Let us repent of our backsliding ways.  The Lord Jesus tells us that when we refuse to help those who are least important we have refused to help him (MATTHEW 25:46 GNB) and we are judged for it.  Some of the judgment we are experiencing now could be as a result of that.

In Acts we are reminded of Jesus’ words: “It is more blessed to give than to receive”.  God wants us to help others by giving the gift that keeps on giving.  What is that gift?  This is the gift of His Son, our brother Jesus Christ, who gave himself a ransom for many.  Only Christ  makes the tangible, eternal  difference in the lives of the weak.  He gives abundant and everlasting life instead of death, unconditional love instead of hate, compassion instead of scorn, healing of mind, body and spirit instead of sickness.  He puts the lonely in families, he daily bears our burdens, He goes out of His way to reach the outcast, dead and marginalized, he provides physical and spiritual food, He heals the broken-hearts and I could go on and on as this gift keeps on giving.

Therefore let us make everyday a season of giving by giving Jesus Christ to all we meet.  As we give to them the Lord Jesus who will multiply our efforts and this original gift will keep on giving and change our world.

PRAYER

GOD I am nothing except in you.  I pretend to be strong but am indeed weak.  Help me to realize that I need to re-present you to others who are weak and need your strength to carry them through.  Forgive me for keeping you to myself.  In Jesus name.  Amen.
