Isaiah 40: 28-31 Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
There is a cartoon in which one of the characters would ask the other ‘What are we going to do tonight’ and without fail the answer would be, in the deadpan voice,’ Same thing we do every night’. We are creatures of routine. We get up around the same time every morning, prepare for the day, start the day and let it run until bedtime. We drop into our beds exhausted, sleep and next morning like the cartoon characters we start all over again. This routine can hammer us into the ground stumbling and falling as we drag our tired, weak and weary bodies through this life. STOP !!!!! IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE THIS WAY.
DO YOU NOT KNOW? HAVE YOU NOT HEARD? THE LORD IS THE EVERLASTING GOD, THE CREATOR OF THE ENDS OF THE EARTH (ISAIAH 40:28).
Let us stop and reflect on these words for a moment. The Lord, who comes to us and stands at our hearts’ doors and knocks, wants to come in and live with us and teach us how to live and strengthen us and so forth, is Everlasting. What does everlasting mean? Lasting forever. Therefore if we are plugged into Him, we will last forever. The Lord is the Creator of the ends of the earth. As Creator He is always transforming nothingness to somethingness. He is always at work to change the routineness of life to His newness which is always exciting and uplifting. He is always on the job as he never gets tired or weary. In addition, we cannot figure out his understanding. Therefore when and where we least expect it the Lord is in the business of transforming us without shape and purpose into shapely and purposeful people with meaning.
Therefore this is the God that is calling us to Him today, another day filled with routine. He is calling us to make us over, to newness to transform our lives and our exhaustion into strength. He knows that whether we are young or old we grow tired and weary. Therefore hear the word of the Lord to you and me this morning and drink it all in:
He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. (Isaiah 40:29-31)
Thus, if we hope in the Lord He is going to recreate our strength and when God renews our strength we become supernaturally energized and able to soar on wings. Well the last time I checked humans did not have wings (lol) so God will empower us and allow us to go way above the ground of routine to the new heights and perspectives that cannot be reached unless He recreates us. He wants to break us away from the routine so we can run and not grow weary or panic or break down. He wants to put us on steady footing so that we can walk firmly instead of fainting with exhaustion from the stresses of life.
Friends so let us this day turn to the Everlasting Creator Lord who is calling us out of our routine and sameness into his transforming power to recreate and renew our lives and experience.
PRAYER
God what would I do without you. I am empty and tired. Restore and renew me and my perspectives. In Jesus Amen.
