Psalm 91:1-2 “He that dwells in the secret place of the most High SHALL abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
Children from my neck of the woods, in my era, used to say to each other “you’re bound and compound” when they wanted to hold the other child to the promise made. This meant that the individual(s) had no choice but to carry out the promise made often at great personal sacrifice.
In today’s passage we are given the assurance of the MOST HIGH himself, that once we dwell in his secret place, we can be absolutely sure that we SHALL abide under the shadow of the Almighty. Now what does the word shall mean? The dictionary tells us that shall means, will have to; something that must take in the future. In the law the word SHALL is equal with the word MUST and there is no discretion.
So, the Lord wants us to know that once we take up residence in his secret place we can be absolutely sure being fixed, stable and able to continue operating protected by his Shadow. Hallelujah!! Isn’t it wonderful to know that God has got our back? In a world where we often wonder who we can trust and where can we turn for refuge and strength, God wants us to know that His Shadow will ensure that we are not harmed by the blazing sunlight of the world’s artificial light.
When we look at things in the wrong light, we are unable to properly perceive the things correctly. God wants to have us under His Shadow so that we are not distracted, unable to see properly and therefore unable to make the proper decisions that affect the whole human race. God is the Source of light and therefore He will teach us to walk as children of light able to effectively discern in our everyday living.
So today in order for us to move to SHALL we must take the step to answer God’s Spirit that is calling us to abide in his presence. Abiding will bear fruit as goodness and mercy will follow us all the days of our lives.
PRAYER
Daddy I am very willful and disobedient and often like discretion instead of operating in the “shall”. Forgive me and give me grace to do your will and reap the reward in due season. Amen
