Psalm 1

Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers,  but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night.

Sometimes I am on autopilot.  Going doing things automatically without a consciousness or mindfulness about what I am doing.   This can go on for a while that I drift into doing things that do not reflect my value system.  It is often when I get a jolt back to reality that I realize that I need to consciously assess what is happening in my life, repent, turn from what I was doing, make the necessary adjustments to return to my value system.

So often we get so wrapped up in routine that we neglect to check our spiritual temperature and see whether we are living the conscious, abundant life.  Ponder the questions below as you consider your life at present:

  • Whose counsel are you walking in?
  • What way are you standing in?
  • Whose seat are you sitting in and who are you sitting with?
  • What are you delighting in?
  • What are you meditating on?
  • Are you watered by streams or dried out and hollow inside?
  • Are you a fruitful tree bearing fruit in season?
  • Is the work of your hands prospering?
  • Are you like chaff blown and tossed by the wind?
  • Is the LORD watching over your way?

Check your answers to these questions and see if there is a need for you to turn from the broad road of destruction to the narrow path of righteousness, justice and truth. Check yourself before you wreck yourself.

PRAYER

Father, often we find ourselves hiding behind the masks we create for ourselves.  Strip us of these masks and help us be the selves you create us to be.  Forgive us for trying to impress the others around us instead of drawing closer to you.  We find ourselves in the wrong company which affects our fruitfulness.   Prune us, cleanse us, fill us again and direct us to the way we should take.  In Jesus name Amen.
