2 Corinthians 10:3-5 –   For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

Jesus wants to pull you aside from the everyday hustle and bustle.

Have you noticed that information is always coming at you?  In today’s world, the cell phones are designed as minicomputers enabling you to have your calendars, social feeds, messages of every sort right at your fingertips.  Each notification triggers an alarm.  This means that we are constantly being bombarded with information every second of each day.

This life is in direct contrast to my grandparents who lived in the rural areas years ago without any form of telephone or internet access, where messages had to be delivered in person and sometimes took days and weeks to be delivered. Even as a child, I remember limited telephone access where I had to deliver messages to others that did not have telephones, being even called the bearer of bad news.

Yet my grandparents lived happy, fulfilled lives and conversations were face to face interactions that brought joy and excitement.   However, don’t think that I am advocating that we go back t those days of no telephone, internet access.  But on the other hand, there is some merit in putting boundaries on how much information we process daily.  Some information we receive is irrelevant and only takes up precious cognitive space that could be better utilized.  Do we need to stop and smell the roses, talk to someone face to face, shut off the telephones and have some literal down time?

One of the Future Work Skills for 2020 that Apollo Research Institute indicates will be necessary is Cognitive Load Management which includes being able to “discriminate and filter information for importance”. [1]

Jesus is therefore calling us aside today so that He can teach us how to discriminate and filter cognitive information so that we can practice Kingdom living.

Matthew 11:28-29 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls”.

Too often we get burdened down with the load of arguments, pretensions, strongholds and knowledge that have set themselves up against the Kingdom of light and are thus unable or are limited in our ability to function effectively.  So today come aside from information overload and meet with God as revealed in Jesus Christ.  Trust me after spending time in His presence you will never be the same.

PRAYER

Jesus, we are so full of things that does not satisfy or fulfill.  Please empty us and fill us with your Holy Spirit that will lead us into all truth about ourselves and our bankruptcy.  We look to you and ask you to fill us with the treasures of heaven that cannot rust or spoil.  Amen
